Check out some footage of the class here! https://youtu.be/KRRuC4hqWO0?si=G3TZgXvqRFqQdv6e \nCourse Overview: \nDuration: 5 Days \nLocation: N.W. Arkansas \nPrerequisites: Students who attend this course should have a basic level of firearms experience (pistol and rifle / carbine) and safe firearm handling and be able to pass a background check. \nSkill Level: Intermediate – Advanced \nMinimum Age Required: 21 years old \nMust be able to pass background check or\, possess a concealed carry permit (the concealed carry permit conveys that you’ve already passed a State Police background check).  \n  \nThe Primal Defender Course is an intensive and transformative 5-day training program designed for individuals seeking to enhance their self-defense capabilities and survival skills. In today’s unpredictable world\, being prepared to protect oneself\, loved ones\, and property is more crucial than ever. This course blends survival techniques\, tactical training\, and defensive skills\, providing participants with both the knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to respond effectively in a variety of situations. \nThroughout the course\, participants will work under the guidance of experienced instructors who bring real-world expertise to the training environment. The program emphasizes practical exercises that simulate potential emergencies\, allowing participants to build confidence in their ability to defend against threats and thrive in austere conditions. \nParticipants will learn essential medical skills\, including trauma care techniques like wound packing\, applying tourniquets\, and care under fire. They will also develop critical survival skills such as shelter construction\, water procurement\, fire making\, and an introduction to navigation\, laying a solid foundation for outdoor survival. The course will cover an introduction to radio communications as well as tactical training with firearms\, focusing on carbine and pistol handling\, safety protocols\, effective shooting techniques\, and movement. \nAdditionally\, the Primal Defender Course incorporates advanced topics such as area denial\, mission planning and teamwork\, enabling participants to strategize and execute operations under pressure. Special emphasis will be placed on night operations\, enhancing stealth and coordination among team members. \nStudents should be prepared for long training days. There is a lot of information to cover and we may work into the night (don’t worry\, we’ll make sure you get chow breaks). \nBy the end of this immersive experience\, participants will leave with a comprehensive set of skills that empower them to handle emergencies confidently\, defend against threats effectively\, and foster a survival mindset. The course also provides a unique opportunity to build camaraderie and lifelong friendships with fellow participants through shared challenges and experiences. \nWe have crammed a lot into this course! Let’s be honest\, none of us become masters of any craft in just five days. But the concepts\, principles\, and ideas that you’ll be introduced to and get to practice during the Primal Defender course will be game-changers for your personal development as a survivor and protector. \nJoin us for the Primal Defender Course and take a significant step toward becoming a more capable and resilient individual\, prepared to face whatever challenges life may present. \n  \n* This course has a 6-student minimum. In the event that not enough students enroll\, students WILL be refunded. Students will also be offered to reschedule to a future course if they’d prefer. —* Minimum has been met at!!! \n  \nBreakdown of specific skills / subjects we’ll cover \n\nTrauma care: tourniquets\, wound packing\, and pressure dressing.\nKnife safety and survival tool creation\nKnot tying\, shelters and fire-starting methods for survival\nIntro to Radio Comms – FRS\, MURS\, GMRS\, amateur (Ham) and Sat Comms & Beacons.\nWater procurement and purification techniques.\nMap reading\, compass use\, and more\nArea security planning (Area Denial) for home and property defense.\nIntro to Mission planning\nCarbine – Weapon safety\, zeroing optics\, and mastering fundamentals.\nCarbine – Tactical movement\, team communication\, and cover usage.\nMoving at Night\nTactical Trauma – Care under fire and multiple casualty management.\nTeam-based mission planning and rehearsals.\nNight mission emphasizing stealth and teamwork.\nPistol – Fundamentals of grip\, stance\, and trigger control.\nPistol – Advanced drills: dynamic shooting\, movement\, and weapon transitions.\n\nInstructors: Primary Course Instructor: Matt Tate – Owner / Lead Instructor – American Survival Co & Director of Operations of Salvo Security Group. \nThere will be multiple Specialty guest Instructors for this course with backgrounds ranging from Intelligence\,  U.S Special Forces\, U.S. Army Ranger\, O.G.A.’s (Other Govt. Agencies) and U.S. Air Force Special Operations. \n  \nAdditional Information: \nFAQ: \nWill gear be provided for the night mission? \nGear provided will include safety gear\, “training” rifle & “training” rifle ammunition and radios for team communication. \nWe do not provide tactical gear for students. You are welcome to bring your own tactical gear such as plate carriers\, battle belts\, night vision\, thermal\, binoculars\, radio communications\, helmets\, etc. If you have any questions about a specific piece of gear\, send us an email and will get back to you quickly. \nIs Night Vision required for this course or\, is it available for rental? \nNo\, night vision is not required and it is not available for rental from our company. If you have night vision or thermal and want to use it as a force multiplier on the night mission\, you are welcome to bring it and use it. If you don’t have night vision\, don’t let it be a deterrent to you jointing this class. If your situation is that you don’t have it\, it’s probably a good idea to learn how to operate without it as effectively as you can. \nFirearms questions: \nHow many rounds of ammunition will I need for the carbine and pistol training? – You will need 350 rounds of carbine ammunition and 350 rounds of pistol ammunition. \nHow many Pistol and rifle magazines do I need to bring? At least 3 rifle magazines and 3 pistol magazines with magazine carriers for both weapon systems. \nAre there any restrictions on the type of carbine I can bring? – Any carbines / AR pistols with less than a 13.5” barrel\, you must bring and use a suppressor. Nobody wants to spend the day on the range next to a shorty with a muzzle brake 🙂 \nYou will need a rifle sling for this course. \nDistance: We will shoot at close ranges as well as out to 400 yards with carbines. Iron sights\, red dots and magnified optics are all welcome. Bring and use what you’d plan on having as your “Go Gun” in a long-term defense situation or scenario. \nCalibers Allowed?: We recommend 5.56/.223 for this course but .300 BLK\, .308\, or 7.62×39 are acceptable. If you have any questions about the rules for a specific caliber\, email us for guidance. \nYou will need to bring hearing protection and eye protection for the shooting portions of the course. We recommend a set of dark lenses and a set of clear lenses. \nOptic Covers – we will be using non-lethal training ammunition for this course. We recommend that you have a protective lens cover for your equipment if you plan on bringing and using night vision or thermal optics as a force multiplier for the night mission. \nRequired Gear:  If you plan to camp on site (camping is free)\, you’ll need to bring standard camping kit (tent\, tarp\, sleeping bag & pad\, etc.) your bugout kit\, food\, water\, etc. to live on for the five day course. Fixed blade knife\, Paracord (50 ft.)\, ferro rod\, lighter\, weather-appropriate clothing and footwear\, pen/pencil\, notebook. Carbine/rifle with sling\, Pistol with durable OWB holster\, 350 rounds of rifle ammo\, 350 rounds of pistol ammo\, at least 3 magazines each for the pistol and rifle. Hearing protection\, eye protection. \nRecommended Gear: camouflage clothing for night mission\, shooting mat\, bi-pod\, backpack\, a folding camp chair\, gloves\, folding saw\, snacks\, sunscreen\, bug/tick repellent\, etc. \nPhysical Fitness Level: \nMost people should find the physicality of this course acceptable. You don’t need to be a marathon runner or\, to be in the best shape of your life to successfully complete this course. Ask yourself this…if something happened tomorrow\, will you be magically transformed overnight into a perfectly fit person and in perfect health to deal with “The Scenario”? Of course not\, we all know it doesn’t work that way (no matter how much we wish it did). So…you are where you are in terms of fitness and physical health (bad knees\, etc.). Our farthest “hike” during the course is around 600 to 800 yards. If you’re capable of making that movement\, you’re probably fine for this course. The main thing to take away from this course isn’t a sore back from rucking\, it’s the knowledge\, concepts\, principles and experience you’ll get through hands on learning in a controlled environment. If you’re still not sure if your fitness level or age (we’ve had students in this course in their mid 60’s)\, is appropriate for this course\, then feel free to give us a call to discuss any concerns you may have. \nAdditional Information: \nThere will be a central campfire located in the base camp where you can cook meals\, but you are also welcome to bring rocket stoves for cooking as well. \nDue to the length of this course\, we recommend camping on site in order to develop new relationships with fellow students and to establish some camaraderie for a smoother experience during the mission phase. This is likely a course where you will establish life-long friendships! \n

SUMMARY:Fieldcraft - Wilderness Launch Course
DESCRIPTION:Come learn wilderness skills from some of the best Instructors in the industry! You’ll spend the first two days learning in a controlled environment\, you’ll then be launched out into the wilderness for 3 days to put your newfound skills to the test!\n\nThis course is designed to quickly get you up to speed on some of the core fundamentals of wilderness survival and then\, allow you some immersion time to pressure test those skills. During the first two days of this course\, you’ll sleep under a tarp with a sleeping pad and sleeping bag in a controlled environment while learning wilderness skills (shelter\, water\, fire\, basic traps\, primitive weapons\, knots\, first aid\, etc). On the morning of the third day of this course\, we’ll remove the safety net a bit and set you out on your own to utilize the skills you have learned. During your immersion phase (two nights / three days)\, we’ll guide you to a location where you’ll operate on your own\, choosing a shelter location\, setting up and establishing camp\, and using your newfound skills to survive for the rest of the course.\n\nHowever\, we never fully remove the safety net in a training environment. Your Instructors will remain in the nearby area\, periodically checking in on you to ensure your safety and to act as tutors throughout your immersion experience. In a nutshell\, you’ll have as much or as little access as you choose during the immersion phase\, to ask Instructors questions or get advice on how they might approach a particular issue. Some Students may have a high level of confidence\, choosing to seek little interaction with Instructors during this time. Other students may need a little more advice throughout the immersion phase. Either way is fine; our goal is simply to have you get some independent “dirt time” with us nearby as a safety net and knowledge source. There is no better way to gain confidence in your ability to survive in the wilderness than to immerse yourself and put your skills to use!\n  \nYou will be allowed to bring the following items once we enter the immersion phase of training.\n  \nRequired items for immersion training:\n\nBackpack or bag\nTarp (for shelter)\nSleeping pad\nSpace blanket\n4 Large trash bags / liners (clear)\n100 ft. of paracord\nCold weather clothing (heavy coat\, bibs\, thermal underwear\, beanie etc.)\nExtra clothing – 2 pair each of socks\, underwear\, t-shirt / undershirt\nHat – (boonie hat\, beanie\, ball cap\, etc.)\nWater filter\nMetal container / spork\nFerro rod w/ striker\nFlashlight / headlamp\nGloves\nFixed-blade knife (you may bring multiple knives)\nFolding saw (Silky\, Corona\, Fiskars\, Bahco\, etc.)\nRain gear\nFishing kit\nTrapping wire\nSmall med kit (we will have a comprehensive medical kit on site as well)\nAny medications that you may need to bring with you\nCompass\nArkansas fishing / hunting license w/ trapping option\nCell phone w/ battery charger (solar battery)\n\n  \nOptional items:\n\nRecurve bow and arrows\n100 ft. of tarred bank line\n\nFor your immersion phase\, you will be issued:\n\nSmall ration of rice\nBeef bouillon cubes\nSalt and sugar\n\nBeyond your minimum-issued food rations\, if you want additional food\, you will have to procure it from the wild.\n\nThe days will be long\, filled with learning new skills and gaining hands-on experience. Expect to be tired\, although we always train with a “safety net” in place. We can simulate some of the stresses of a real survival situation by introducing fatigue coupled with whatever weather conditions Mother Nature deals us. This is an important part of the learning process because it will allow you to see where you notice subtle changes in cognitive processing\, dexterity\, coordination\, and decision-making. You should be mentally prepared to embrace this part of the experience as it’s critical to personal growth\, discovering your limitations\, and discovering creative ways to approach various situations and scenarios.\n\nOur goal is for you to emerge from this experience with a newfound confidence in your ability to face an unexpected night (or nights) in the wilderness.\n\nAfter you’ve completed the course on the final day\, you can look forward to walking out of the wilderness to a welcoming\, hot meal provided by the staff\, followed by student discussions about lessons learned during the immersion phase. Lastly\, you’ll receive your certificate of graduation from the Wilderness Launch Course!

SUMMARY:Fieldcraft: Wilderness Survival Skills
DESCRIPTION:Wilderness Survival\nFieldcraft: Wilderness Survival takes you through the four basic necessities: shelter\, water\, fire\, and food (plus a few bonus tips). Students will learn knife skills & blade safety concepts to build a primitive shelter\, insulating and waterproofing techniques\, multiple useful knots and examples of tarp shelter setups. Multiple fire starting methods will be explored\, including bow drill fire\, ferro rod\, how to make fire at night\, and in different shelter types. Students will also learn water procurement and filtration\, how to make primitive traps\, as well as becoming familiar with local plant life that can be beneficial for nutrition or medicine. \nStudent Outcomes\nUpon completion students will have the knowledge to: \n\nProvide for your most essential survival needs\nThink strategically about steps necessary to staying alive\nTake action to save their lives and those of their party should they ever become stranded in the wilderness.\n\nThis class takes place in the outdoors and is very hands-on. For example\, you will venture out on the 300-acre property with your Instructor to gather materials for your bow drill kit\, carve the kit yourself and then be instructed on proper form\, tips\, etc. as you attempt to create fire from friction. Nothing can replace hands-on experience and we specifically have you make your own bow drill kit because we want you to fully understand the process and be able to recreate it on your own when you go back home. \nSome elements of this course are discussion-based and instructor-led presentation order to relay critical information but\, our intent is to make sure you get plenty of hands-on experience actually doing things with your own two hands. \nCamping or Glamping—It’s Your Choice\nMake this the experience you want it to be! You are more than welcome to camp on-site at no extra charge. If you want to spend the night in a hotel (or at home for local students) and come back for class the following day well rested\, do it! Bring steaks or burgers to cook over the fire if you want (we have a charcoal grill on site as well). Make yourself as comfortable (or uncomfortable) as you want because at the end of the day\, it has zero impact on the material we are going to teach you or the skills that you will learn during this class. Come to this class expecting to have fun and to learn a lot! \nRecommended items:\n\nFolding chairs\nComfortable outdoor clothing (shorts\, tennis / hiking shoes\, ball cap)\nSunglasses\nRain gear\nBug / tick spray\nFlashlights (headlamps)\nTent / hammock / sleeping gear\, etc.\nFood & Cooler\, snacks\, gatorade\, etc.\nWater bottle (there will be a water refill station on site)\nFixed-blade knife\nFolding saw (as long as a couple students have these\, they can be shared with the group)\nGloves\nSunscreen\nNote pad & pen / pencil\n\nNote: Feel free to bring any survival gear you own but haven’t yet tried out. This is a great time to test out water filtration systems\, etc. that you may have stored in your bug-out bag. \nThere will be a porta-potty on location. \nThe historical War Eagle Mill is less than a mile from our base camp. It is a great place to check out and they have all sorts of goods for sale in their gift shop from their traditional milling process done on site.\nThey also have a great little restaurant located upstairs to grab some lunch. \nBonus: We will discuss survival packs\, gear\, bags and the minimum survival gear that you should always carry with you.
